Once I studied dress shapes & took a serious look at my body type, I began to go towards dresses I knew could look good on me. Initially, I took my favorite dresses from those designers, some bridal-magazine fashion advice, added my intended neckline, and created this sketch. Ultimately, I decided to go with something else, but this was the first full sketch I made, and I was pretty proud of it.
Are you ready for the unveiling? Here it is...
I initially posted this dress to my personal blog last summer. In January, I was flipping through a random bridal magazine* when I saw yet another spread of "How to cover up your plus-sized figure" (I plan to show mine off, thank you very much) featuring a dress that looked strikingly familiar. Then I remembered where I saw it. It's my dress!
I went online, and the dress from the magazine is Mori Lee's 3056 from their plus size Julietta line. But check out these photos. Notice anything?
Right.
My sketches were scanned and posted to my blog in August 2009, and the earliest info I found on this dress is from October.
The resemblance is, in my opinion, uncanny (the same pose, even!)... but you be the judge.
Knowing bridal fashion, it's totally possible that many people have the same ideas at once. Who knows? But still, it was a *weird* feeling. Oh well. At least I know the dress that didn't work for me can work for hundreds of other lucky brides!
Is anyone out there wearing this
*Yes, I have enough random bridal magazines that they are scattered throughout the house! This particular magazine is the January 2010 issue of Bride's magazine, page 54.
